Explained: Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS)

What causes Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS)? Credit Tucker Carlson and Rush Limbaugh for suggesting that TDS exists because the Elitist Deep State Establishment fears the loss of the "control" it has exercised over the federal bureaucracy since the days of FDR and the New Deal. That was when the size of the federal bureaucracy exploded. (For reasons of space, we’ll just use the term: Deep State.)

While Sigmund Freud might say some anti-Trumpers are envious of President Trump’s abundant testosterone, there is more to it than that. Some who have TDS base their antipathy for President Trump on his abrasive New York accent, his arrogance, and on his bull-in-a-China-shop approach to carrying out the wishes of those who elected him to office in 2016. They do not like Donald J. Trump, the person.

But the underlying reason for TDS is because the Deep State has never before encountered a President of the United States it could not control.

Some examples: President Truman was part of the New Deal and, other than being righteously suspicious of the intelligence community, preserved the Deep State that FDR created. Up until Richard Nixon, every president who followed Truman was in the go-along-get-along mode.

President Nixon, however, posed a threat to the Deep State. President Nixon wanted to move many of the bureaucracies out of Washington, D.C. and relocate them closer to the people they were supposed to serve. In fact, President Nixon was successful in establishing a number of federal regional commissions, even as far west as Rapid City, SD. The Old West Regional Commission (ND, SD, MT, NE, and WY) even had its own satellite trade office in Frankfurt, W. Germany, trying to sell wheat, soybeans, popcorn, and tourism to the European Union.

Fortunately for the Deep State, Richard Nixon handed them Watergate, the sword with which they drove him from office. But, take away Watergate, and the Deep State would have been facing empty office space inside D.C., and a depressed housing market in the counties that surround D.C.

Recall, in 1972, Richard Nixon won reelection, carrying 49 States and achieving the largest popular vote margin since WWII. A Nixon second term could have spelled doom for the Deep State. Again, Watergate toppled Nixon.

President Ronald Reagan made only modest cuts in government, using most of his time extolling the virtues of America and directing a military surge that bankrupted the Soviet Union. The Deep State regarded President Reagan as an amiable dunce who, unexpectedly, ended the Cold War in our favor.

Presidents George H.W. Bush and G.W. Bush did not threaten the Deep State. Their meager cost-cutting was doomed by Gulf War I and by 9/11. The Deep State welcomed President Osama’s "transformation of America" that created dozens of race-based initiatives and added thousands of federal jobs to Deep State payrolls, making the counties contiguous to D.C. our nation ’s richest.

President Trump, however, refuses to come under Deep State control. Ergo: the 2020 presidential election is not really a choice between voting Democrat or Republican. The choice is between voting for the Deep State or for President Trump. On November 3d, you decide.
